A Love So Dear
Poetry — A wife’s tribute to a long and happy marriage

I wish to tell of a surpassing gift How do I begin To tell the story so long in the living Yet barely a page complete
Too young we stepped into our beginning How do I explain The senseless arrows of pain we threw Whose images still remain
As we learned with days of life Our separate goals entwined Youthful vision narrowed on self Stretched to fill the needs of two
Commitment strong and true Saved threads of love worn bear We tested frothy waters deep and cold To find safe harbors and sun-kissed shores
Ordinary days filled the seasons While the life we built grew Through victories and pits of despair We clung to times of joy and prayer
How did our love survive and bloom “How can it be,” I asked Somehow we knew we held the key The story’s end lay within you and me
