An ode to the leaf that refuses to let go

Each morning I peer out to see if the wind has come during the night like the angel of death to coax you into the light, but not you, my love! You’re immovable.

And this evening, to my delight, you’ve once again changed your robes, and the colors are like a lantern that’s come to light the way.

With each frosty sunrise, I fall deeper in love with you and with me, with the wind and even the tree. My, what the world could be if it had a love like ours!

And the bittersweet morning will soon come when your colorful robes turn to sackcloth, and I will see you shivering and say, I fear our time has come, my love. And you will whisper sweetly, I’m ready to let go if you are.
