A Love Letter
Poetry prompt: What would be an absurd thing to receive in the mail?

Living in the all-girls’ dorms in the 1980s* was a lot of fun. TV was not the main source of entertainment back then. We talked, read, listened to non-stop music and pranked each other. Time just flew so quickly in laughing at silly jokes and establishing friendships for life.
Receiving mail was eagerly awaited, and even the love letters were read aloud. One letter created near frenzy excitement among our five roommates. We’d received an anonymous love letter written in blood. For days, we suspected each other of having a secret admirer.
We became full-time investigators to solve the love letter mystery. Few of us skeptics were bemused that some idiot will go to this length. A letter was put on display in the room for all to see. After days of incisive inquiry, our friends confessed they wrote the letter by a red-inked pen and mailed it to us for some live entertainment.
