A Love Letter Between Myself
The letter to all six aspects of me.
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown — Isaiah 43:2, NLT
Conscious Me: I believe it is time to have a heart to heart talk. Grab a cup of tea and ease into your recliner. We are going deep, deep into the waters of love. Now, take a few breaths and relax your shoulders. That’s it, roll them around. Close your eyes and imagine a river lies before you. Wade into the water. Then go back in your mind to the beginning.
Me: The beginning of what?
Conscious Me: The beginning of whatever you want it to be. What is the first image that comes into your mind? Where are you? What do you see?
Shadow Me: It is so long ago, I can only see a shadow. Wait, something is coming into view. Clouds and a city. A bright, shining city with a castle just like Cinderella’s. I think it is the city of God! I’m on top of a hill, and I feel joy.
Conscious Me: Good. Let’s move a little deeper until the water comes up to your knees. How do you feel?
Wobbly Me: Oh, the water is rushing a bit. The rocks are slippery, and I am unstable. I see myself alone with my baby. Fighting to keep her because forty-four years ago, I am deemed incapable since I am an unwed teenage mother.
Conscious Me: Don’t worry, this will pass. I am by your side. Walk deeper into the river until the water comes up to your waist.
Stable Me: I am on a firm footing. I’m married, working for the federal government, raising three kids, and exploring spiritual things. Wow, a strong wave almost knocked me over.
Conscious Me: Keep moving until the water is up to your shoulders.
Scared Me: The water is rushing to and fro. It will take me away! My ex-husband is stalking my family and no one cares. I have no help; not my church or my friends. No one!
Conscious Me: Trust me, I am there with you. Swim out into the river. Do you see me?
Drowning Me: No! The waves are crashing over my head! I am drowning under a whirlpool of addiction and guilt.
God in Me: Reach out! Grab my hand! See, I got you.
Saved Me: I was drowning. Why did you let that happen to me? Wait, I’m dry and walking on the water with you!
God: I was always with you. In this life, you will have trouble. But don’t lose hope, I am surrounding you with the waters of love. I’ll never leave you or forsake you because you are engraved on the palm of my hand. Please keep your eyes on me so I can guide and direct you. I have given you the peace that passes all understanding. Remember, above all, I love you.
Peace and Blessings from all of Us!
