A Long Winter of Difficulty Will End

You Can’t Know When, But You Can Be Sure Spring Will Come

“You can’t change nature,” said a friend. She was talking about growing vegetables in her allotment, but I thought about how her words also apply to our lives.

If you’re going through a long period of difficulty, it can feel like a long winter. It can feel as if things will never change.

But every winter does end. Even the longest, coldest and darkest winters end, and, one day, we’re bathed in spring sunshine.

Spring arrives, teeming with new life and new growth.

The Nature of Life Is to Change

The nature of life — and the nature of nature — is to change, but it doesn’t always change quickly.

The earth has to go through the whole of winter before the sprouts of new growth can burst forth from the ground at the beginning of spring.

So, if you’re going through a long and difficult time in your life, take heart. It won’t last forever.

Appreciate the Present Moment

Take things one second at a time. You can cope with the present moment.

Try to enjoy this moment as much as you can. Savor it. Relish it. Appreciate it. In a moment, it will be gone forever.

Try not to worry about the future. You can’t know what will happen, but don’t let that uncertainty make you nervous.

Know that Spring Will Arrive

Trust that everything will enfold naturally, at the right time, as it does when the pure white snowdrops break through the ground as the first sign that spring is on its way.

While you’re in the winter, take things moment by moment, step by step and day by day. Do what you can do to move forward but don’t force it.

Remember, you can’t change nature.

You can’t know exactly when spring will arrive, but you can know that spring will arrive.
