Seven Possible Reasons You Might Be Staying Up All Night
Sleep Is Essential For Your Health And Well Being
Here are seven possible reasons you are unable to sleep at night:
1) BUGS AND NOISY MOSQUITOES
That moment when you are about to shut your eyes to fall asleep, but then you spot a big cockroach on your ceiling, with its ugly face looking down at you. You make a big sigh, before getting up from your bed to go get a broom outside your bedroom to kill it. But when you get back, it’s no longer there. (Darn I would cry my heart out that night.)
I can’t leave that cockroach to be roaming around in my room. The worse is if that cockroach can fly (darn I hate flying cockroaches). I would look for it and deal with it because if I don’t, it might come back crawling on my body and God knows how much I hate bugs crawling on my body… Cause the way I would shout, my neighbours would think that I have gone mad or something.
So to avoid embarrassments from my neighbours, I would not sleep until that roach is dead. Even if I have to turn my room upside down to find it.
And for the noisy mosquitoes. I don’t even want to go there.
2) NIGHT SNACKS OR LATE COFFEES
I do love late-night snacks, to be honest, the more the sugar the better. But then it ends up causing my blood sugar to hit the roof, making me not to rest well at night.
Even Though I know this, sometimes I just can’t help myself and I am sure, I am not the only one.
As for the coffee lovers, If you notice yourself at night tossing and turning on your bed, and you have no idea why then you might have taken too much caffeine hours before going to bed. According to researchers at Harvard Medical School, they reported that caffeine blocks adenosine, your body’s natural sleep-inducing agent. It also breaks your sleep, so that you wake up more often during the night.
3) AFTER WATCHING A HORROR MOVIE
People, who enjoy watching horror movies, how do you sleep at night? It’s one question I keep asking my friends and they reply to me with something like this “like a baby.”
One night my friends bought a movie just to watch in my home; it was an Indian movie, something about a ghost.
Oh my goodness! I was ready to kick them out. But for some reasons, I let them convince me to stay just to watch the movie.
They promised me that the movie wasn’t scary; in their own words “it’s like watching Scooby doo.” They said.
So I stayed back and watched with them. But boy was that movie far from what they described as “Scooby-Doo” It was so scary that, after watching it, it took me a while to sleep (because I was thinking about it.) and when I finally slept, I had nightmares that night.
4) YOUR BEDROOM IS EITHER TOO HOT OR TOO COLD
I love my room freezing cold. I don’t know why, but there’s just something about snuggling into the sheets that just feels so good.
But a super cold room or a hot one can seriously mess up anyone’s night. According to an article on Bustle.com “You might think you know what makes for a cosy bedroom, but there’s actual research examining optimal sleeping temperature. Generally, the sweet spot is somewhere between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit … with temps below 54 or above 75 deemed disruptive to your slumber.”
5) NOISY NEIGHBORS (INCLUDING CHURCHES AND CLUBS)
One of the things that annoy me at night, is the noise coming from a church next to my home.
After a hard day of work, I come back home, take a fresh shower, have my dinner, and then later climb my bed, expecting to be taking away by sleep. But all of a sudden I hear the sounds of a lousy drummer coming from the church beside my home, in the middle of the night. The church wanted to start a night service and of course, they don’t care if their neighbors are sleeping or not. So they make as much noise as they please.
Times like that, I throw a pillow on my face and pretend to suffocate myself. Hoping to fall asleep in the process, because trust me the noise would go on till daybreak.
6) THE UNIVERSE
The wonders of space frighten me sometimes, I find it hard to sleep when questions like “are we the only intelligent creatures in the cosmos?” pops up in my mind.
It’s even scary when I think that we are not alone and also who or what could be out there? OR Are we some kind of ripened fruits waiting to be harvested by creatures from other planets (I watch too many movies.)
But seriously if the aliens do come, do we have a plan?

7) OUR PHONES
There’s just one application that always keeps me glued to my phone and that is YouTube… I am so addicted to watching videos, that it takes the Grace of God and low battery life to stop me so that I could sleep.
If not, if one YouTube video finishes, I am waiting for the next one to load.
Remember sleep is a fickle thing, so don’t let anything deprive you of your sleep. Make sure you check on your room temp, stop late-night snacks(yeah right,) and put away your phones. And hopefully, you’ll get a better night sleep.
