A letter to my sister
Before you complain; you are not one year older, you’re 36 years younger
Dear Sister,
Happy Birthday. This is your 36th; and I wanted to make a note to reminisce our nostalgic journey.
“From our childhood quarrels to our evening strolls From dressing up together to our yearly excursion siblings ritual From pulling each other’s legs to emotionally support each other”
It’s been a roller coaster ride especially for you. But, you have handled it gracefully and courageously.
We don’t share common perspectives on many things but we have shared the same womb for 9 months. Our common upbringing has imbibed us with values that are impeccably reflective of our behaviors.
People choose to get settled in their lives by your age but you chose to quit a bad relationship and become unsettled with your daughter.
Being a single mother, independently managing your home, job and your daughter is way beyond commendable. Not everyone has the tenacity to do this.
Unconsciously you have inspired me to lead a courageous life with integrity upholding the true definition of feminism and independence.
Amongst us 3 siblings, you have always embraced a path untrodden with a vast spectrum of creative and unconventional possibilities in your career — Radio Jockey, TV presenter, emceeing and lately a home-schooling mother.
I applaud your creative intelligence; you just need to work on your emotional intelligence (*wink*). Your ideas, thoughts, and content are original, authentic, and satirical delivering a candid message to the audience.
I feel you are too vulnerable and naive and mostly do what your heart says rather than your mind. But that’s your nature and I respect it. Everyone has a fair share of ups and downs; you have gracefully handled yours and kept up well with the emotional journey.
You are the kind of person who never waits for any opportunity but rather creates opportunities for herself.
Keep in mind, whether you want to be in a relationship again, prefer to get married, not-married, being single — you have my back. I’d support you in everything you’ll pursue.
You have sailed through this life journey elegantly and look incredibly younger day by day. You are reverse aging naturally.
We wish you health, peace and wealth.
I would like to end this letter with your favorite phrase ‘Carpe diem’.
Your loving sister
