A Letter to My Future Self

Dearest me of 2023

As you may or may not remember, I'm writing this to you from the past. Dated: February 2nd.

A gloomy day of February has come to its end, and sitting in front of a heater waiting for mama to make dinner, I thought why not write something for the future you.

With this thought also came a realization that you're 20 now. You've said goodbye to the reckless teenage and entered prudent adulthood. That right there is a new start for you. I don't know what problems you're facing right now but know that you'll get through it. You always have. I know you more than anyone else out there and I know you've been weak yet the bravest person I've ever known. You will never cease to shine as bright as a star.

I'm sure that by now you're a part of the medium partnership program and you're earning something from this platform because right now it feels really hard to achieve. I'm stuck on 2 followers and 2–3 views per day. I don't feel like giving up but it seems like a hassle. But I'm confident that I will achieve 100 followers in 2–3 months. May God help me.

Tell me about the university. How are you managing everything? You are such a star. I hope your GPA hasn't dropped a number from 3.5 and if it has then you're a disappointment. Go away. Just kidding I'm still proud of you and I know you can and will improve. I hope you're having a blast in university and you're socializing more than your past self.

ooh, and you're probably still single tsktsk. Don't worry someone out there is waiting for you and you will meet when the time is right. You don't have to rush anything. You're enough for yourself.

I'm preparing for 1st-year finals. I hope I score well. And I just tested negative for covid. Is the pandemic over? Or is there some Algernon named virus going around? Whatever it is please keep yourself safe.

Do you know what I just did right now? I sent a risky text “smile” to a guy who never smiles in his picture and threw my phone away. Are you still a chicken or you've evolved to become a turkey?

Oh and something I'm very curious to know about is that do Otis and Maeve end up together in season 4? I'm praying they do or I’ll stop watching stupid high school shows.

Okay, enough stupid talk. I hope you've found a way to spend days that brings you pride and joy. Please know that

I'm fighting right now so you can have a learning experience

You probably think of your past battles as something so small and unworthy of your attention but I know how big, scary and important they are for my growth.

I have to wear the armor and go to the battlefield so that I grow up to be you.To become THE MAGNIFICENT YOU.

I hope you're proud of your past self because I'm trying really hard here. Every day, it's a new battle, a new field, and a new enemy.

I pray that you find balance in your life and that you're taking care of yourself. And you are what you always have been: a beaming light to others. I won't waste your time any further because I have to study physiology and I'm sure you're studying biomechanics or some bs.

I can absolutely not wait to meet(BE) you.

Much love Slum hog.
