A Letter To My First Car — The White Fiesta

Weekend Writing Prompt Response: Prompt 5: “A Love Letter”

Dear Fiesta,

How are you? I haven’t heard from you for over twenty years.

Do you remember the day before you were sold (or abandoned)?

After I polished you brightly as I used to do, I circled you several times, and you were so clean and shining. It was the only gift I could give you, but it couldn’t make up for what you gave me.

When I got you, you were an 8 year old car with over 70,000 km on it.

People call you an old car, but in my opinion, your petite frame is so cute and your white color is so beautiful. You were my first car and you made my driving dream come true.

With my friends in Germany, I drove you to a lot of places.

The easternmost point we reached was Prague, Czech Republic, and the westernmost point was Paris. During my studies, you have been always by my side, you were my most loyal buddy.

Before going to Paris, the traffic there was said to be chaotic and there was a bump for every car. So a friend was reluctant to drive her new Toyota to a chaotic city and we drove you to Paris.

Another summer we took a long trip from central Germany south to Munich, east to Salzburg and Vienna, and then to Prague. Finally, we return via Leipzig and Dresden.

We were initially worried that you would not be able to withstand the long-distance torment at your age, but you were so good at it, and there was no problem along the way.

I am glad that you and I have been to many world-famous cities and witnessed their different appearances firsthand. I am sure you must be proud of yourself!

But I don’t know if you were happy with me because my lack of common sense about cars and my poor driving skills often made you suffer.

Once I felt something wrong on the highway, only to find out later that I forgot to put down the handbrake when starting. This way you had to accelerate and brake at the same time.

How embarrassing you were!

After graduation, I moved to another city and sold you to a student before I left.

You did your best to stay by my side for so many years, but when my life got better, I abandoned you. I feel like a bad guy who likes the new and hates the old.

Hope the new owner takes good care of you. Maybe he also drove you to see more scenery, I wish you have a great time with him.

Twenty years have passed, and we haven’t met again.

Maybe you’ve appeared before me, but you’ve probably turned into a new car that I don’t recognize.

I believe you will be reborn as a shiny car, even if the years have turned you into a pile of scrap metal.

I will always miss you and the good times you brought me. I wish you happiness, no matter what you become.

Your sincerely

Mulan
