A Leaf Isn’t Just a Leaf

It’s a cosmos

Photo by Luke Ow on Unsplash

Once each leaf is sewn into the hem of autumn,

the wind grabs it. Its cinnamon or fire-blaze paint seeps deep soil-ward to join the sun-drenched core, and the earth billows with the season’s rich fodder that before long, when the ice melts the silver from the night, sprouts with keen tendrils.

Green arms and legs reach for galaxies beyond imagination, pulsing with a vital spark to fill the space we call nothing.

And should you chance to gaze at the stars, perhaps you’ll note their petals stream alight with fire from the maple or sycamore.
