A lamb had been pushed into the thorns of a fallen hawthorn tree and was in pain.
Hearing the lamb baa, a boy went to him and helped him to his feet.
“Follow me, lamb. I will take you to my father. He will remove the thorns.”
“Baa,” replied the lamb.
When he sat on the floor of his father’s workshop, the limping lamb lay by his side and made the gentle sounds lambs make.
Joseph looked up from his work and smiled at his adopted son. He could see the thorns along the lambs leg and put his hammer down on his carpenter’s table.
Joseph patted his son’s thick curly hair and said, “Another injured one?”
“Yes father.”
Joseph removed the thorns' and soaked a cloth in oil and herbs and wrapped the lambs wounds.
“Keep the lamb close, Jesus, until his wounds are healed.”
