A.K.I, a new poison-themed character, joins the Street Fighter 6 roster as the second DLC character on September 27th, using a unique fighting style known as "She Quan" or "Snake Fist Kung-Fu".
Abstract
The legacy of poison-themed assassin F.A.N.G lives on in his protege A.K.I, who joins the playable roster of Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 as the second DLC character on September 27th. A.K.I uses poison like her master, but fights differently, being the first de facto user of "She Quan" or "Snake Fist Kung-Fu" in the Street Fighter world. She can gradually take down opponents by inflicting poison status and has comprehensive knowledge of the human nervous system. If you have purchased the special editions or the Year 1 Character pass, A.K.I will automatically be added to the roster. A.K.I’s addition to the Street Fighter 6 roster shows that inflicting poison is becoming a new trend that started in Street Fighter V.

A.K.I. Sinks Her Venomous Talons in SF6 on September 27th
The legacy of poison-themed assassin F.A.N.G lives on in his protege A.K.I.
On September 27th, newcomer A.K.I joins the playable roster of Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 as the second DLC character (Rashid, who debuted in Street Fighter V, was the game’s first DLC character), with Capcom releasing a new promotional trailer for her. The latest trailer showcases A.K.I’s gameplay which shows that she uses poison like her master, F.A.N.G (who also debuted in Street Fighter V), but fights differently from him, which she is the first de facto user of “She Quan” aka “Snake Fist Kung-Fu” in the world of Street Fighter.
Like F.A.N.G, A.K.I can gradually take down her opponents by inflicting poison status on them.
Poison alone isn’t the only thing that makes A.K.I lethal to deal with. A.K.I has comprehensive knowledge of the human nervous system, as the latest trailer shows, by injecting poison into her opponent’s pressure points via her super move “Claws of Ya Zi.”
If you have purchased the special editions or the Year 1 Character pass, A.K.I will automatically be added to the roster on September 27th. Once A.K.I becomes available, players can train under her tutelage in the game’s World Tour Mode and implement her moves.
A.K.I’s addition to the Street Fighter 6 roster shows that inflicting poison is becoming a new trend that started in Street Fighter V. In World Tour Mode, you can use A.K.I’s arsenal to gradually deplete the life bar of opponents who play more defensively than others. This could be an excellent way to punish opponents who rely too much on the tactic known as “Guile Turtling.”
I’m personally curious about the potential relationship dynamic between Chun-Li and Juri.
Like Chun-Li, A.K.I specializes in Chinese Kempo. There is also the dynamic where Chun-Li is a law enforcement officer and A.K.I is a criminal assassin.
Like Juri, A.K.I is a tragic villain. They’re both twisted in their own individual ways. It’s like Juri and A.K.I could end up as kindred spirits.
While Juri lost her parents and her right eye in an explosion orchestrated by Shadaloo, A.K.I worked as a prostitute before being discovered by F.A.N.G (who is revealed to still be alive after the events of SFV). I believe this tidbit of history makes A.K.I, in her own way, more human than the rest of the Street Fighter roster.
With F.A.N.G revealed to still be alive and working as a freelance assassin, given how Shadaloo has fallen and M. Bison destroying his previous organization, there is the possibility he could train more people, and revive his organization in the near future (it’s a given that Capcom’s going to make future installments of the franchise).
In preparation for her anticipated September 27th release, Capcom will sell its “A.K.I Arrives!” Fighting Pass on September 1st, where you make your World Tour avatar move and dress like her.
Look forward to A.K.I in a couple of weeks.
On a related note, it is the 36th anniversary of the franchise.
We can look forward to more DLC characters in the future such as Akuma (who debuted in Super Street Fighter II Turbo) and Ed (who debuted as a support character in Street Fighter IV and became a playable DLC character in SFV).
