A Journey To A Different World
If I Could Time Travel
Guest Prompt Week 2, Day 3:“If the time machine was invented today, what would you do?”

Ahhh, time travel, the first thing that came to my mind was to tap into my inner child for inspiration. What would she want to do or witness? I have always thought I was born in the wrong time, or perhaps I am remembering past lives living in an era far removed from present day, who knows. Either way, this prompt has triggered my imagination and I am excited to get started.
First, let me declare that I think that the time machine already exists, perhaps in the future or in another dimension or realm. Therefore, I believe that time travel is possible, or it could just be that I have watched too many Science-Fiction movies and have convinced myself of their existence. Regardless if the technology exists or not, I would love to explore the possibilities.
For some reason, in my head, I don’t think we can change or alter the past or the future when time traveling. Therefore, for the purpose of this piece, I will assume that all I can do is observe.
As I buckled my seatbelt and adjusted my head gear to start this time traveling adventure, I punched in the era for my desired destination. Where could it be, you ask? Well, on my first journey in my time machine I would like to visit the Mesozoic Era, that magical era when dinosaurs existed. Yes, those giant creatures that roamed the land that are now mostly extinct (this might be debatable, but birds are considered to be dinosaurs by some paleontologists).

In my imagination, there were people that lived in that time, and they too were larger, humongous, gigantic beings. For the sake of this piece, I will call them mesosapiens. I have no facts to back up these statements, this is only my imagination at play here. But my assumption is, if the animals were larger, trees would be larger as well, and if mesosapiens existed it makes sense they would have been larger than the animals. Right, it makes perfect sense to me.
But wait, are they able to speak? How would I communicate with them? Well, duh telepathically of course, how else would you think as language was not invented until millions of years later. But remember I am only here to observe, so there is no need to worry about communicating.
In the Mesozoic era, I think mesosapiens would be in complete balance with nature. There is no hate or evil forces inhabiting their land. There is oneness, a place of peace where love is the ultimate state of being, and everything is vibrating within that frequency — harmoniously.
I can imagine even the butterflies (well moths) are larger as well. With giant animals walking the land, it makes sense that the insects are larger too, right? I assume there are giant bees or perhaps some version of flying insects helping to pollinate the giant flowers and enormous trees. I hope there aren’t any giant roaches, I am still baffled where those things came from, perhaps they are a lab experiment gone terribly wrong.
What about the fruits? Yes, there are giant fruits as well. My favorite fruit is a pineapple, and if they have pineapples, I will devour a giant one all by myself. But crap, again, I can only observe which means I can’t eat from the trees of this prehistoric land.
What about the flowers? Oh wow, I can imagine how beautiful and vibrant they would be. I imagine there would be giant roses, giant orchids, and giant multicolored lilies. The air would be clean and filled with rich oxygen from the giant tress. A sweet oasis where no pollution exists, and the trees are left alone to thrive with all their grace and beauty.

My imagination can paint this vivid picture in my mind, but I would love to go back in time to explore and witness this prehistoric world for myself. I no longer would like to depend on the educated guesses from modern humans based on fossils they have uncovered. So, I welcome this time traveling journey to go back to an era that I can only create in my imagination.
After venturing off into the prehistoric era, I think I would like to time travel to the future. How far ahead, hmmm I am not sure, perhaps 500 years? And I have to admit, I am not sure what I will find. I am a bit scared to open that Pandora box, but I would hope that humanity was able to get their shit together and figured out a way to survive.
I can’t help but to think that AI is far advanced and humanity has evolved into something else. What that is, I don’t know hence the reason I would like to time travel to witness this era for myself. Actually, on second thought, I take that back, I don’t want to see the future. I will just allow it to materialize as it was intended to.
My only hope is that things are much better than they are now. Meaning war, violence, hunger, homelessness, hate, evil, greed, racism, sexism, etc are all things of the past for the future humans. Perhaps, AI was able to solve those issues for us because obviously we can’t figure them out on our own.
Simão Cunha I am grateful for this imaginative prompt. It is not every day that I get to play with my imagination in this way and visit prehistoric eras that have been buried for millions of years. Thank you for creating this time traveling adventure. I hope that on your adventure you can find a way to save the world for us, humanity would be forever grateful.
This was written in response to Simão Cunha’s Friday Guest Prompt:
Thank you all for reading. And thank you Diana C. for creating the space so that we all can revisit stages in our lives, tell our stories, grow, and heal. KTHT has been a rollercoaster, one that I don’t mind riding.
