A Jerk I Once Knew

This person did not enrich my life

The jerks in your life may be out to get you.

After reading an article on Medium about jerks, I thought about some of the jerks I have encountered throughout my lifetime. Unfortunately, there have been several. One in particular stands out. I decided to write about that person without mentioning any identity.

Shane Beattie wrote an article about jerks which was called, “Why The Jerks In Your Life Are The Best For Your Personal Growth.” He made these points about jerks:

Jerks want what you have

Jerks feel threatened by you

Jerks are sad

When you realize that jerks want what you have and feel threatened by you, it is easier to understand why they treat you as they do. They are not going to be kind to you when they are envious of you. The fact that jerks are sad people can cause their victims to realize that perhaps the jerks need some compassion and empathy.

Maybe the jerk needs a friend. Sometimes friends become jerks, and other times jerks do become friends if the conditions are right. It’s not easy, but it can happen.

As Shane pointed out, jerks can be good for your personal growth. If you can handle being around jerks, you should be stronger after your involvement with them. You should be able to understand more about the nature of mankind and their weaknesses. The jerks may have shown you the seedier part of life. They can teach sympathy and care. They can make you realize that your life is better than theirs and you have been blessed.

Hopefully, we have not been jerks to other people.

Jerks may be people who are saying bad things behind your back to your friends. They may tell lies about you. They may work to undermine what you do or say. They may be trying to figuratively stab you in the back or throw you off a cliff. That has happened to me from the jerk that I knew.

Fortunately, that person is not in my life any longer. I can move on without having to see the face of the person. Life is better without having jerks trying to make life miserable for you.
