A Hot Springs Experience Great for Kids and Parents

A Colorado destination that energized our entire trip

Have you ever had the chance to soak and relax in a hot spring? And not just any hot spring, but a creekside hot spring?

It wasn’t until we vacationed in Colorado and booked a few days at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort that I got to experience soaking in a hot spring for the first time.

It was magical. And the bonus was it didn’t smell like sulfur.

On our trip of exploring various sites throughout Colorado, we made it a point to take a few days to relax and enjoy this natural stress-free wonder.

It was an experience in water like no other.

What is a hot spring?

If you don’t know what a hot spring is, it’s when the groundwater is naturally heated by magma under the Earth’s surface.

You are basically sitting in a hot tub that doesn’t require any electricity to heat the water. It’s pretty cool to experience first-hand.

At Mount Princeton, there were a few different options for how you could enjoy the hot springs.

While our family was there we enjoyed the exercise pool and creekside hot springs. Since then I believe they have added some private hot spring options as well as an infinity pool.

My kids loved the inground pool that was naturally fed from the spring. The pool looked like any other inground pool you would typically see with the blue bottom and rectangular shape. But you could feel the difference in the water and its temperature once you stepped in.

The creekside hot springs

What I fell in love with were the creekside hot springs. My daughter and I are pictured below relaxing in the warm water.

As a kid, I had spent countless times going creeking on the property of my childhood home. My sister and I would wade for a greater part of the day trying to find crawdads under rocks and treasures buried in the mud.

Never before had I experienced lounging in a creek and enjoying such warm water temperatures.

In some spots, you could see the steam coming up from the bottom of the boulders close to the bank. All the creeks I had ever been in were never close to being this hot.

Some spots were so hot I had to move some of the stones around to allow some of the cooler water from the rushing creek to mix with the hot to get the perfect temperature.

My kids were entertained for a while looking for pebbles and digging through the sand. It did get to a point that the water was a little too warm for them, and they were ready to go back to the pool.

Hot springs and magnificent views

Not only did Mount Princeton have unique ways to enjoy the hot springs, but there were also magnificent views everywhere you looked.

The mountains were gorgeous. I remember one evening specifically going out on the side deck, drinking a warm cup of tea, and admiring the most breath-taking view.

There was a large Jenga puzzle on the side lawn to enjoy. They also had a checkers game in the lobby my kids constantly wanted to play.

The environment set the mood for relaxation and slowing down some.

Our trip to Mount Princeton was just what we needed before ending our Colorado trip.

I loved the remoteness of where the resort was located, and both the staff and other guests were so kind.

The hot springs gave us some relaxation we all needed. Looking back, we would have missed out on quite an experience if we would have left out adding this destination to our trip.

Have you visited other hot springs? If so, where was your favorite? Leave your responses in the comments.
