This thing politicians and pundits like to call “the economy” is simply people moving money around. An economy needs people — healthy people — to produce goods and services to trade for money, which buys more goods and services, and so on.
An economy that relies on sick people moving money from their personal wealth into corporate wealth accounts is upside-down. It is the healthy who should move the economy.
The sick should simply be expected to focus on getting better, to be healthy enough to contribute again to “the economy.”
We need SinglePayer, MedicareForAll, UniversalCare where anyone who needs it can get medical care regardless of economic need. To rely on sick people to stimulate 18% of the US economy while sick is immoral and unethical.
We can do better.
