A Handful of Silliness
(The last of the month)
Linda Caroll made sure that I didn’t make it out of November without being tagged one more time. So here are her quick five questions…
- What’s one of your fondest childhood memories?
From kindergarten to third grade I lived in a blazing hot desert valley in the Great American Southwest. During those four years it only snowed one time! And that one time happened to land on Christmas Eve.
Our family celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. We were in the middle of unwrapping presents when the neighbor called to tell us to go outside because it was snowing. The family, some of us in pajamas, rushed out to the front yard and sure enough it was snowing. We kids held out our arms and opened our mouths as snowflakes landed on us. It was my first magical memory of snow. Even though it never stuck to the ground it was so magical that we forgot all about the unopened Christmas presents inside. (Apparently, it only snows there once every thirty years.)
Nowadays when I look out the window and see that it is snowing my first reaction is, “Oh shit! Not again!”
2. What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever hurt yourself?
Jogging on ice.
3. What do you love to do in your spare time that you don’t get paid for?
Cooking, tending my houseplants and playing with books.
4. If you were earning 10K/month on Patreon, what would it probably be selling?
If I were making 10K a month on Patreon I would probably have to be selling expensive on-line courses on how to make 10K a month on Patreon.
5. If you could wake up proficient in any skill that you aren’t proficient in now, what would it be?
Music and art.
Linda also answered questions from Edel Quinn . I didn’t get tagged by Edel but I liked some of the questions…
3. Do you prefer the freedom of solitude or the security of a large group?
I prefer the freedom and security of solitude.
8. Are you a cat or a dog person?
Both. For sixteen and a half years I lived with a cat and a wolf-dog. They kept me balanced and relatively sane. I miss them so much. I prefer bigger dogs over small yappy ones even though I don’t live on a farm. My wolf-dog used to take me out into the wilderness on a regular basis for running which I greatly appreciated. We both needed our exercise.
9. Are you a gym bunny or do you prefer exercising outdoors?
Exercising in a room with other people? Eeeew gross! I have never gone to a gym and I never will. I get my exercise out in nature away from humans the way God intended. The only exercise I ever do in public is snow shoveling. (And I’ve been getting an awful lot of exercise so far this season. As I write we are in the middle of our 9th winter snowstorm already and it’s not even December yet.)
10. Do you prefer to watch thrillers or comedys?
I prefer to watch dramas. Like Linda, I prefer to read rather than watch — or listen. I never listen to books being read. That takes all the fun out of reading. For me, reading is never part of multi-tasking. It always gets my full attention.
With seven hours and twenty minutes left in November I’m wondering how many questions I’ll be answering in December. Wait a minute! I just realized that today is November 30th. It’s the eight-year anniversary of the day my wolf-dog kicked the bucket. Okay, now I’m sad.
Is it spring yet?
