Summary

Astronaut Altman and his monkey Milo conclude a successful mission on the Earth-like exoplanet APX777, where Milo inadvertently introduces a banana to the planet's ecosystem.

Abstract

Astronaut Altman and his monkey companion, Milo, have completed a fourteen-day exploration mission on the exoplanet APX777, which has been found to be incredibly similar to Earth with its atmosphere, water, and rich soil. The mission's end is marked by an unintentional act by Milo, who discards a half-eaten banana onto the planet's surface, potentially initiating the growth of countless bananas due to the planet's fertile conditions. This event is framed as part of a 50 or 100-word story challenge on the theme of bananas.

Opinions

  • The author suggests that the exoplanet APX777 is exceptionally fertile, implying that it could support a wide variety of plant life, including bananas.
  • The act of Milo discarding the banana is portrayed as an innocent yet potentially impactful action, hinting at the unforeseen consequences of human (or in this case, primate) activities on alien worlds.
  • The story is likely to be a creative response to a writing prompt, indicating the author's engagement with and contribution to a broader literary community or challenge.

For astronaut Altman and his monkey Milo, it was the last day of their fourteen-day stay on the exoplanet APX777.

It was a successful exploration mission. The exoplanet was Earth-like in every way. It was at the right distance from its sun, it had an atmosphere, clouds, water, and plenty of oxygen. What was remarkable was its nutrient-rich soil. You could grow anything on it.

Just before the spaceship’s hatch was closed for the last time, Milo did something that Altman failed to notice. Milo tossed a half-eaten banana which landed on the surface of APX777.
