A Grieving Heart in Aetherwind

I have been reminded that I should write a story for Hope * Healing * Humor.
Ah, okay, picture this: Lily strolls into this sleepy little, run down hamlet called Aetherwind, right? She’s got this whole gloomy cloud hanging over her because, you know, life’s kicked her in the guts. She’s lost her one-and-only to her sister, and it’s like someone’s hit the mute button on her joy.
So, she’s wandering around this place, and bam! She stumbles upon this old, crusty-looking garden with a gate that’s squeakier than a rusty seesaw. There’s this old dude there, Mr. Jasper. This guy’s as cheerful as a raincloud but just loves his flowers more than anything. He’s kinda like the grumpy grandpa of plants.
Now, enter Benny. This guy’s a walking, talking carnival. He’s got more jokes than a joke book, and his magic tricks? Man, they’re so bad they’re good. He starts doing his thing near the garden, and it’s like he’s a magnet for laughs. People just start showing up, laughing like it’s going out of style.
Turns out, this garden, which Mr. Grumpypants Jasper is all secretive about, is like this magical mood-lifter. It’s like nature’s antidepressant or something. The more people laugh and enjoy, the more this garden turns into something out of a fairy tale.
So, what happens next? This place becomes the village’s happy pill. Everyone’s sharing stories, cracking up, and even old Jasper cracks a smile. It’s like a big group therapy session with more flowers and bad magic tricks. The whole village is beginning to become lighter and even, dare I say it, beautiful for a change.
Lily, she starts to change, too. It’s like she’s got this inner light switch, and Benny and the gang just flipped it on. She’s learning that life’s got its dumpsters, but it’s also got its fireworks.
The big finale? Benny throws this massive shindig in the garden. It’s like the Oscars but with less drama and more genuine smiles. Everyone’s having the time of their lives, celebrating, and just being human together.
When Lily leaves Aetherwind, she’s not the same chick who walked in. She’s got a bit of that Benny sparkle in her eyes now. And that garden? It’s a living, breathing reminder that even when the chips are down, a little laughter can turn the whole game around.
And that, my friend, is “The Laughter Prescription Garden” — Rick style.
I just read a lovely story by J Oliver Dempsey that touched my heart.
Sam Letterwood wrote the story I wish I could have written.
