A Girl, Three Guys, And A Gun…Oh, And Granny
A response to Jeff Ehren’s 3 Day Poetry Challenge

Have you heard of this cheesy film? IMDb calls it quite grim 4.7 out of ten slightly less than Matchstick Men
For June Allyson it was her last acting role Apparently playing Granny took its toll Her story’s quite an extraordinary one sorrow and challenges, foibles and fun
When she was eight a tree branch fell beginning a bit of a personal hell broke her back and killed her dog she wavered through a wheelchair fog
Doctors announced she’d never walk again she wore a brace and swam and swam before you know it across stages she pranced For 60 bucks a week she danced and danced
Her big break came with Danny Kaye For Dates and Nuts she earned her pay The chorus line at Copacabana Club Against Lucille Ball’s fame, she did rub.
She dated John F. Kennedy and then She was married four times to 3 different men she and first hubby’s barber were married twice apparently drunk men were her vice
You may know her by her raspy throat or how on Richard Nixon she did dote But probably you know her best by the incontinence issues she addressed.
