A gift from heaven
September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Comfort”
It was neither day nor night.
I remember the day I took this picture.
I was recovering from an illness that had me stay indoors for more than a week.
It had stopped raining and the sun was slowly setting.
My sister was going out for an evening walk and wanted me to join her. I was tired, I was still recovering and I didn’t want to be bothered. But she insisted that I joined her. “You need to come out and breathe in anything other than the air in your room.”
Indeed, the smell of medicines I was consuming daily to get better enveloped the room.
I put on a warm jacket and beanie and stepped out of my house for the first time since. I took in a deep breath and exhaled. Our walk began.
My sister spoke about anything that came to her mind as we slowly walked the street. My eyes were staring at the wet ground not bothering to look up at the faces that walked passed us. The wet ground and puddles reflected strange colors I had not seen in a while. But I paid no mind to them for I was getting very tired and needed to go back home.
I was about to tell my sister we needed to turn back. But before I could say a word she called out my name.
“Reginald.”
“What?” I replied.
“Look up.”
I did and what I saw was magnificent.
Colors that seemed to be purple, pink, peach, and orange were painted in the sky. It was beautiful.
I would not have noticed it If I was well and blinded by my daily activities. But I was standing there that evening feeling weak, cold, and sensitive staring at the sky in absolute awe.
There was something about its beauty that gave me a sense of peace, happiness, and comfort.
“Quick take a picture.” My sister commanded.
As I raised my phone and clicked the shutter button, the photograph above was born.
Thanks for reading!
