A Future Promise
A poem about you
There’s a lifetime in your smile, pulling heartstrings along the way.
Your eyes light up my path, when blindness suffocates my thoughts.
I let you tell me when I’m right, because my wrongs have led me astray.
Time and distance, age and circumstance, all pieces on the board.
There are winners and losers and we all switch roles.
A hidden gem can only stay buried so long, mine the land carefully and uncover maps you’ve never known.
I need to unlearn the burns from those fires long ago, keeping only the warmth of you telling me it’s ok.
We’ve walked together in opposite directions of our souls, guarded by people who tried to change our worlds.
There’s a time and place and it feels like now, it feels like forever.
