To celebrate our first birthday I am extremely excited to announce A Taste for Life’s second writing challenge.

The prompt is based on one of the two images that tickle your fancy and creativity.

Prompt: Hocus, pocus, what’s the focus of the image?

The theme or focus of your story is open to your unique interpretation but it should be based on one of the images below.

Where will your creativity take you?

One of the images above is most likely going to connect with you in one or another way. You have an idea swirling in your brain. Prompts sometimes create a magic moment in one’s mind in a flash.

There is no right or wrong way to respond to a writing prompt. Why not go with your gut feeling?

Why hocus-pocus-focus?

Yesterday was our 1st-year birthday celebration. I am aiming to spice the weekly writing prompts up a bit in the form of writing challenges.

As I was thinking about this writing challenge, the word “image” appeared in my mind. I searched for images and found the two images above. They leaped off the page and whispered to me, “choose me, choose me.”

The words, “hocus, pocus, photo magic” suddenly appeared in my mind. Those words sparked the prompt for this writing challenge.

Submission guidelines for the challenge:

  1. Submission stories can be self-published or submitted to any publication of your choice.
  2. Your story should be inspired by an image and be between 1 and 5 minutes long.
  3. If you choose to submit your story to A Taste for Life please submit it as a draft.
  4. Please tag your submission with “Writing Challenge 2023.” This is for A Taste for Life Website navigation purposes. The other 4 tags, headline title, and subtitle are up to you.
  5. You can submit more than one story.
