In Conversation With an Avid Reader
Very recently (and by recently, I mean a few months back! ;)), I had an incredible opportunity to speak with Mohit Rau.
His story is truly inspiring, which is why I finally decided (after months) to reconnect with people who have a growth mindset and are making a positive impact in their lives and the lives of others around them.
Mohit worked as a computer engineer in India for 3 years. It was during this time that he realised he did not want to work in this field for the rest of his life. So, he took a leap of faith and pursued his genuine interest in sports. With the courage to leave a well-paying job that brought him no joy, he embarked on his journey to Melbourne, Australia, to study Sports Management. Alongside his studies, he honed his skills by interning and working with small businesses. However, when the pandemic struck, his life, like all ours, came to a standstill. In the absence of work opportunities, he embraced an alternate path and took on a job as a sanitation worker that differed from his initial aspirations. And it was at this phase of his life, he stumbled upon reading. And, oh boy, he’s not stopped since then :)
Today, he proudly works with the Government of South Australia as a Project Support Officer and has set himself the ambitious goal of reading 100 books this year. As I write this, he has already devoured 80 books 🙌 He shares his knowledge generously within his LinkedIn community.
Mohit’s story deeply inspired and motivated me. Our conversation taught me three invaluable lessons:
- Embrace Courage: Like many of us, the idea of sharing content online can be intimidating. However, it is crucial not to let the fear of judgment hinder you from sharing your knowledge. You never know who you might inspire along the way!
- Establish a System and Cultivate Discipline: Mohit follows a systematic approach. He dedicates his weekends to writing and reserves a weekday for proofreading. Alongside having a well-defined system, cultivating discipline is essential.
- Engage in Social Experiments: I found Mohit’s approach to conducting social experiments based on what he reads fascinating. When he encounters new or different information in a book, he tests it with friends and acquaintances to verify its validity. This practice aids in retaining knowledge and fosters authenticity in his posts.
Our conversation was truly insightful and exemplifies Mohit’s growth mindset.
That’s all from me,
Pooja.
