A Fresh Walk And The Beautiful Palms Teach Us Life Lessons
They stand straight and tall with self-discipline

A walk at Lodi Gardens
This week I went to get some fresh invigorating air at Lodi Gardens. I have been a little under the weather and was asked to go out and chill and spend some time with myself with less time on computers.
This meant missing out on Medium for a few days but was good for my health so I decided to take my evening walks further from my home and to interesting parks.
Lodi Gardens is historic and it operated from the time of the British Raj. It was built by them and it is open and beautiful.
A walk over there freshens you up. Lodi Garden, a landscaped park, was designed in 1936. There are 500-year-old buildings from the time of the Sayyid, Lodi, and Mughal dynasties.
It is in the heart of New Delhi city located on Lodi Road between Safdurjung’s Tomb and Khan Market in south Delhi. It has an area of 90 acres with beautiful monuments and tombs.
When I went for a walk, I saw that it had become a very popular place with joggers and walkers around. Some people were having a little picnic and love birds and young couples were having a great time.
What I enjoyed most was older couples holding hands and whispering sweet nothings to each other. There were some walkers who were walking and had music on their phones and headsets.
There were walkers like me who were enjoying nature without any earphones or other people around.
I enjoyed the undulating walking paths and jogging tracks. I saw ancient trees, colorful shrubs, and flowering plants, birds went twittering past me. The attractive parrots made strange sounds and I was wondering whether they were telling me something about their lives.
Just then I came across the palm trees standing erect in one line. They looked disciplined and straight, standing tall. What a delight it was to see them. It gave me joy and positivity.
I complimented the gardeners on the upkeep of the beautiful garden particularly the palms that I loved. I asked them in which season they prune them. They told me that the trees are self-disciplined.
We have never pruned the palm trees. Everything else in the garden is cleaned and pruned but palm trees are left alone. The branches of the palms fall off themselves every year when they die during Autumn and somehow the trees resume the same shape.
Wow! Such amazing trees! Self-disciplined and beautiful. This was such a lovely walkway. I went in and out of that walkway many times.
Then looking up at them, I thanked them for being there pouring out lessons:
The trees are calling out. If we are not disciplined every country will be chaotic and unruly. Each individual will do what they want and there will be only sorrow in the world. To have a happy country our perspective should be to discipline ourselves
Life lessons from the palm trees.
🍀 Self-discipline can bring joy, harmony, and peace. If each person in the world decided to be a good human being all of us would live with joy in the world.
🍀The world is a global village. Every country has strengths and weaknesses. The stronger country can lend support to the weaker country and thus provide each other’s support mechanism to grow and there would be no poverty in the world.
🍀Traffic would be smooth as people would not be crossing red lights or driving faster than the required road speed.
🍀If people limit themselves to good behavior, there would be no shooting in schools or killing others for no reason or road rages.
🍀Every country has its rules and regulations. Let us take a pledge to follow them and observe self-discipline.
The trees inspired me to write about them. Things that are orderly and well-organized attract us. So much effort goes into keeping oneself disciplined to make others happy.
I motivate you to think if we can feel inspired by the trees, we could be a happy bunch of people spreading joy amongst each other living a wonderful life together.
I will end with a question for you to think:
Why do we need external discipline if we are strong within ourselves and observe self-discipline?
