People want to be President of the United States.

There have been many candidates who have thrown their hat in the ring to try and occupy The White House as President of the United States. Some are able to win their primary elections and be their party’s candidate for the highest office in the land. They either lost or won. The winners were able to live in The White House for their terms as President.

Each election season many candidates will jump in but withdraw before the primary election is held. They will find that they don’t have the name recognition, backing, or funds that are needed to run.

It is probably safe to say that most of the voters of the United States are not familiar with the name Steve Laffey. He is the former mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island, who was running for President but just dropped out of the race. He was a long-shot candidate who now lives in Colorado. He did not qualify for the debates.

Sky Palma wrote a story for Raw Story which was titled: “‘The GOP is dead’: Presidential candidate scorches party as he quits the race.”

Former mayor of Cranston-turned 2024 GOP presidential candidate Steve Laffey is dropping out the race. In a statement to ABC News, he said he loved being on the campaign trail but was disappointed he “wasn’t able to cross the chasm.”

Laffey’s low name recognition hobbled him throughout the campaign and now he’s the second GOP candidate to drop out. But aside from his struggle to gain popularity and fundraising issues, he said he’s fed up with his party.

“I don’t have an avenue to tell people with a straight face, ‘It’s now October — how do I take off and take New Hampshire and keep going?’ But at the same time, I’m telling people the GOP is dead,” he said.

Now he plans to register as an Independent.

“I am really, really upset about certain things with my party. I will be leaving the party,” he said, adding that he also thinks Donald Trump should be in jail.

“He’s an authoritarian figure who’s getting stronger,” Laffey said.

Surprising to many, Trump continues to dominate. His popularity among millions of Republicans is still evident. Efforts to keep him off the ballots in various states indicate that there are many people who expect him to come out victorious in the GOP primary.

Although there are members of the Republican Party who have denounced Trump and no longer support him if they ever did, he continues to have millions of supporters. It seems that he is able to say and do whatever he wants without losing their favor.

There are plenty of candidates still running in the Republican Party. More may drop out and are being encouraged to do so. Some have criticized Trump severely for his actions, words, indictments, and behavior. Most have said they will support him if he becomes the nominee for the GOP once again.

Steve Laffey has said he is not one of those who will vote for Trump.
