A Five Year Old Shot And Killed His Mother

How tragic is that!

Small children should be having fun and should not have access to guns.

Gun owners who are against gun control say that “Guns do not kill people. People kill people.” While that is true that a gun does not kill without a person pulling the trigger, there are accidental deaths from guns. Bad people are using guns to kill, but there are also tragic accidents with guns where it was not intended that someone would be shot and die.

Unfortunately, many innocent people are accidentally killed by guns. It happens when children get hold of guns and shoot another person. It can happen among family members and friends who had no prior intention of hurting another person.

Jerry Lambe reported in Law and Order about an accidental shooting in Arizona. A five year old got hold of a handgun and shot his mother in the chest.

Police went to an apartment complex after a 911 call. They discovered that a woman had been severely injured. There appeared to be a single gunshot wound to her chest. First responders administered to her, and she was air lifted by helicopter to a hospital. Doctors were unable to save her life, and she died at the hospital that same day.

Police stated that the woman had four children who were home along with her boyfriend. None of the others were hurt.

It was determined that the woman’s five year old son had fired the gun. Police believe it was an accidental shooting from a handgun which was recovered at the scene.

…the tragic incident should remind people about the dangers and responsibilities that come with gun ownership.

“This is a stark reminder that owning and safeguarding a firearm is a serious responsibility and should be a priority in anyone’s home or business, especially if children are present,” the Police Department said in a statement.

Guns are complicated. It is not known who owned the gun, how the child got hold of it, or why it was loaded. The investigation is ongoing.

This family’s life has been changed forever because of this tragedy. Guns have their place in society, but they should never be in the hands of small children.
