A Fighting Spirit
Driven by love- Guest prompt Dan Catalin

“If you knew you’d be saved in the end, would you still fight?”
Why do we fight?
What are we spending our lives fighting for?
Fighting is a part of human nature, but sometimes as humans, we become all too familiar with fighting. We think we need to always fight- when sometimes we don’t. We become confused and learn to push and force our way through life. Sometimes though, life is calling on us to surrender and attract.
Sometimes fighting can actually mean returning to hermit mode for a while. So we can fight for ourselves.
I have a fighting spirit, but I used it to fight against myself for a long time. I also got confused by when and what to fight for- I didn’t listen to myself for a long time.
This is why a lot of people struggle when they don’t need to.
But then again, don’t we need to struggle and suffer from ourselves until we’re ready to learn the lessons about self-love that are ever so important to experience?
I’m not religious and don’t like labelling myself as spiritual in some situations as I think people have created a religion in itself under that label too. But I believe we are all spiritual beings and I like the idea of reincarnation and that we live many lives. Many lives in different bodies and as different people. Past lives are something I have always been interested in exploring and understanding.
I believe in life after death, and I also think we all come from and return to a universal plane/returning place. I’m not sure where or what this looks like- but it does mean I believe in many ways we all get saved from our individualistic attachments to our bodies and material existence here on earth.
I find it fascinating to question all the what if’s of life after death.
Fighting is an important part of being a human. Fighting for survival, our rights and self-preservation. Fighting is a necessary tool to have in our belts for living life here on earth.
Fighting has helped many people survive in situations they perhaps ordinarily wouldn’t have.
Though on the flipside of the coin, fighting can be self-destructive. It can become obsessive. We can find ourselves fighting for all the wrong reasons and purposes.
We can be quite easily tempted and obsessed by success, wealth, power, and lust. We can become unrecognizable to ourselves and begin to morph into the monsters we most fear.
This is part of the difficulty of being human.
We may be fighting for things that only exist to boost our egos, to keep up charades and illusions. We become numb to our own lies and tricks and our souls get parched from lack of nourishment.
Fighting can become a self sabotaging trait rather than a tool for growth.
And when we get caught up in the game we can quickly find ourselves on a slippery slope of self-destruction.
But then, don’t we need the fall to happen for the change to even be possible?
I have sat with this thought a lot lately.
Had I not become unrecognizable to myself in the past, and landed in the darkest of places- Would I have ever received the spark to change, the desire to start truly living again?
So still I am fighting, but now it is with a different intention- a newfound purpose.
I am fighting for love, truth, compassion, and kindness.
I’m learning to rebel against fear and fight for what I believe to be true.
If you knew you’d be saved in the end, would you still fight?
So the answer to this prompt is yes. I want to contribute to the world in whatever way the universe intended. I want to help in the ways I can. I am fighting for what I believe deep down we are all fighting for- fulfilment, peace, and happiness.
The difference is, this new me isn’t going to spend all her time fighting with herself- but for herself.
And now I know where to find many of the things I was fighting for all along… Within myself.
Here are some things I will fight for- My boundaries, Self preservation, My truth, My beliefs, My love of life, My independence, My creative self-expression.
And here are some things I have fought for in the past which I no longer will fight for- External validation, Other peoples truths(that don’t align with mine), Things that go against my beliefs, Anything that’s not working in my life(relationships, jobs, habits, etc.)
So I am still fighting- but for different things. I’m fighting for growth and transformation rather than for quick band-aid rewards.
I’m tired of fighting for all the wrong reasons, but just getting started fighting for all the right ones!
