Collective Reactions

As we all settled into the lockdown, I realized I wanted to write about the changes I was seeing in the world. I felt it was important to capture the strange and unexpected results of our collective reactions. I felt haiku expressed these feelings well.

Quaran-tinted lenses are for social interactions you might have opted out of back when being introverted was a valid choice for self care.

It’s important to be mindful of the people you chose to be in your bubble as their decisions impact your safety.

Return Home Now. “Life Interrupted” is a haiku that reflects on the sudden call to come back to your home country during the Covid-19 crisis.

This poem isn’t a haiku but it explores the tenuous situation of people who are homeless during the pandemic.

The entire world of dating and relationships was changing before the quarantine. Dating Apps had become the norm, but now meeting in person carries a greater risk. There is a need to slow the process down and get to know the person enough to trust they will keep you safe. That may be one of the positive results from this experience.

How Long? Who Knows.. “Quaran-Time” explores the uncertainty we are all living in during the Covid-19 crisis.

Wanderlust. “Thirst for Travel” reflects on how travel is no longer available as a pastime.

“It’s Time for Baking to be Guilt Free” — Quarantine 15 reflects on how stress eating causes weight gain.

“Quaran-Cost” reflects on how the ‘mother’ is suffering and implies that the pandemic is the price we are paying for our reckless behaviour.

“Quaran-Tinder” is a lighthearted glimpse into the realities of dating during the pandemic.

Lead from the Heart. “Gear Up” reflects on duty and the sacrifices made by health care workers.

Cleansing the Debris. “Revenge” ponders the power of Mother Earth as she cleanses herself of our debris.

We All Take a Moment. “Pause” reflects on how we spent time alone in moments of silence, learning about ourselves.

Opening my heart. “Hope” considers the possibility that spending time in Quarantine is an important part of finding our hearts.

Churning of my mind. “Illusions” describes the illusion of control we have in our lives and how it has been shattered.

“I Don’t Miss the Suit and Commute.” I could have called this Loving the Lockdown as it explores how tiring the daily commute can be.
