A Family’s Miracle
November Six-Word Photo Story Challenge: “Happiness”
Happy Family at Tsunami Miracle Cafe
We were sitting at the Miami Cafe on Miami Beach in Penang, Malaysia. As the sun started to set in the west, a double rainbow appeared in the east. Everyone commented on its beauty.
The rainbow is a promise of rain and a promise of good luck. The Miami Cafe is the site of a miracle and luck. In 2004, the cafe owner’s baby girl was sleeping on a mat at the front of the cafe. Suddenly a tsunami wave washed over them. The parents, Raya and Mary, and their other daughter held on to whatever they could to not be pulled into the sea. They watched in despair as their baby daughter was pulled out to the sea with the wave.
Then, 30 minutes later, the baby, still on her mattress, was washed back ashore. She was alive. She was unharmed. What a miracle.
Please read Gerad Carrier’s story, Tsunami Miracle, with more details about the family, their cafe, and the miracle that occurred here in 2004.
