A Dream was Given to Me on a Silver Platter

Saturday, October 2, 2021, I was so tired but I’m not stressed. I spent some time preparing for a 2-hour class but all the efforts have paid off when my students interacted with with me with their best energy. Albeit virtual, it was chance that I’ve been waiting for in the last 20 years.

I thought my dream of becoming a teacher was finally gone. But here I am, I made a comeback to the academe. I am now a part-time law professor. With my expertise, I was offered to teach. I didn’t need to go through the rigors of applying for a job posting. This dream which before was so elusive came to me in a silver platter with ribbon trimmings.

Twenty years ago, I was a fresh and idealist graduate who believed will make a difference through teaching. I wanted to contribute to the enhancement of the quality of education in our province. But life, or may I say people are harsh, I was not given the chance. I offered my best and my noblest intentions but I failed.

Forgetting my dream to become a teacher is the greatest heartache of my life. I cried blood, I was depressed to the bones, but life can only go on by letting go. As cliche, as it may seem, I forgot about my dream 20 years ago and pursued another path. But just last month, the forgotten dream came back to me served on a silver platter.

Lessons:

You can’t always get what you want but you can make do with what you have

I may have failed to get my dream 20 years ago but my skills didn’t go to waste. I was able to use it to do well with my current job and my current job became the key for me to finally get my dream with very little to no effort.

Achieving your dream is not the ultimate measure of success

When I was younger, I thought I was a failure because I didn’t achieve as planned. But life taught me that you can still be successful even if you give up your dreams. You are the measure of success, not the life goals that you have in your mind.

God’s plans are grander than your dreams

This is what I always say and what I believed in — that I have a God whose plans are better than my dreams. Hence, I trusted him. Whatever life has thrown at me, I embraced it and went with the flow. I used my God-given talents to overcome all the trials that came into my life. Now I see the best picture that has been reserved for me all along.

Thank God! Happy Sunday everyone.
