A Day Out for an Irish Dinner
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

I must admit that I had never had a corned beef and cabbage dinner until about four years ago. I’ve had corned beef sandwiches, but not a dinner.
My mother was Italian, and she never made this dinner. She made a delicious smoked shoulder with cabbage. We also added apple cider vinegar to our cabbage. She and I loved it and were the only two in my family who ate it.
Ever since I had my first taste of corned beef, I loved it. For the past two years, my friend and I have gone out on St. Patrick’s Day to have this meal.
St. Patrick was born in Britain and died on March 17, 461. The holiday honors him. Many people believe that he brought Christianity to Ireland.

There are several ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s day. Some cities have parades and dye their rivers or fountains green. Some people dye their hair green.
There is no way I am dyeing my hair green. I choose to dine out instead.

My friend and I took a 30-minute ride to a restaurant yesterday. It is on a river and we have eaten their several times. Unfortunately, it was too cold to eat outside. That didn’t stop some from sitting outside by the river. It was a beautiful day and in the mid 50s.

The menu was full of many enticing items. My friend and I both started out with the baked potato soup, with bacon, scallions, and cheddar cheese on top. To say it was scrumptious is an understatement.

The soup was delicious and the perfect temperature.

Every time we go to a restaurant, I have to ask for a pitcher of water. I drink like a fish and if they don’t leave a pitcher of water, they will come all the time to refill my glass.

Next, the star of the show arrived. Corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, and carrots. The corned beef melted in my mouth. I asked for a side of apple cider vinegar for my cabbage.

The menu had too many delectable desserts to resist. My friend ordered crème brûlée with fresh strawberries. It had chocolate ganache on the bottom. I had a taste, and it was delicious.

Being the chocoholic I am, I had to order the Irish chocolate cake with Irish cream and candied walnuts. It was to die for! Randy Pulley, stop salivating and get up off the floor! I know you’re green with envy.
After dinner, we walked to the river and enjoyed the view and the breeze on our faces.
We were both extremely full after this St. Paddy’s Day meal.
It was an enjoyable time out and a great way to spend the day.
