Walk Of Life

A Day of Observations

Waking up to the feeling

Waking Up Weird

Today was a little weird. I am not even sure why. One of those days? I woke up and drank my morning coffee flying a little sideways, and couldn’t seem to get myself straightened out. Waking up weird, I call it.

I worked on some content writing, though was feeling a little uninspired by it all. Maybe it was the topic I was writing about — So why is the Land Rover Defender the 2021 MotorTrend SUV of the year? I am sure it is a fabulous SUV, it's just not something I would read about otherwise. Currently, my life is all about mass transit and paying my rent on time — not purchasing a new SUV.

But hey, many people are in the market for them and I am here to write about it! Do you want to know about the interior? The rack on the roof? About the engine? I am here for you!

But I needed a dose of medicine. Nature’s medicine. I needed something else to look at for a little while. How about trees?

Trees are always good to look at.

I bid farewell to my laptop, grabbed my water bottle, and hit the road.

Watching And Walking

The waking up weird vibes from the morning stuck around during my walk. Everything appeared different today. More alive?

I am lucky to live in the Toronto area, with the lakefront a quick 5-minute walk from my apartment. In no time at all, I can be by the lake, taking it all in.

I walked along and took notice. I noticed how the trees seemed to sway magically in the breeze, as if they were all dancing together to a silent song. The sky looked bluer than the bluest sky I have ever seen. Is that blue even possible? I didn’t think so until today.

I walked around the trail, and there sat a large cardinal perched on a branch. It mesmerized me for a long while, as we locked eyes. I decided to name him Bob — he seemed like a Bob to me. Bob was so regal, perched on that branch as if were king of the tree.

And the red! Bob wasn’t simply a red cardinal. Bob’s red was a royal red. A royal, rich red that glistened in the sunlight. He seemed to know too, preening his feathers with a most delicate touch.

Time to go, I bid farewell to Bob. For a while, he hopped from branch to branch, following me as I walked. Chirping words to me as if expecting me to understand. I apologized for not.

Making My Way Home

The image was taken by the author. (My feet and Lake Ontario)

I made a final stop to say hello to Lake Ontario, taking in the magnificent blue. The lake and I sit for a while. We don’t say much, but we don’t need to either. The water was so clear, and that clarity washed over my mind.

It was so incredibly calm and peaceful. Like I was being cradled in the gentle hands of the universe.

I was deep in my lake trance when the duck family of the year swam by! Mom, Dad along with SIXTEEN babies splashing and quacking without a care in the world. The ducks were so tiny and they simply made me smile.

I felt my inspiration returning during my walk home. A dose of nature is just what I needed. The sunshine warm on my back guided me the rest of the way home.

Now

I’m home now, relaxed and ready to write. Ready to conquer the Land Rover! Ready to write about leather seats and super-fast engines!

I am also ready to remember.

Remember my watchful walk today. Remember regal Bob. Remember the baby ducks splashing around without a care. And remember that some days I need to splash around without a care too! We all do.
