A Day At The Pool
A response to a “Pool Time” writing prompt

Jared woke up from his sleep
And remembered the day it was of the week
Breaking free from his dream of flowers and meadow
He saw the sun shining at his window
He fixed his bed as quickly as he could
And made his way to get his morning food
He ran to the garden to feel the soft breeze
And saw mom in the kitchen,
making fresh and colorful smoothies.
Dad was busy getting the floats ready
So the donuts and pizzas would be strong and steady.
The water in the pool looked beautifully blue
Jared could only imagine the things he would do!
Playing with beach balls and fun water games
And the other things that will keep them fully entertained
His nine year old friend will be joining him for the fun
Until they both get tired from staying under the sun!
Staying home during the lockdown was not at all fun
Until summer came
and now Jared could enjoy outdoor pool time!
Mom asked Jared to go and get changed
He jumped in joy
and went to get his essentials arranged
He got his favorite beach towel from his closet
That had pictures of cakes and chocolate
Excited to show his friend all his favorite moves in the water
And had plans for the computer games they would play after.
Jared has never been so excited for the pool
After all — dad was home to make his time super playful
Mom would join in later to double the fun
Until it would be time for lunch and that’s when she’d be done.
Little Jared packed his things and ran downstairs
And realized there has been a change in the weather
Alas — sudden clouds have conspired to ruin the day for him
His little heart broke as the outside looked grim
His parents asked him to stay indoors
Without seeing his face, which went sadly ignored.
Tears rolled down his little cheeks
As Jared could barely speak
Mom rushed to console his heart
And realized how badly he was hurt
Dad came into rescue and had a change of plan
To play in the bathroom tub
And avoid the unexpected rain
Jared finally wiped tears from his eyes
And was cheerful by dad’s perfect surprise
Got excited all over again
Happy that his pool time fun
Would not go in vain!
