A Colorful Selection of Birds

Parrots and other wonderful feathered species

Now, when the days are getting shorter and colder we are searching for warmth. But instead of sharing colorful moments with others we much rather dress in all grey and stop smiling in public. The darker months are coming up and I would like to bring some color into your days.

In 2019 I visited Malaysia for the first time. To explore nature inside the capital of Kuala Lumpur I went for a walk in the botanical gardens just to find out that there was one of the world’s biggest bird parks. Not really knowing what to expect and getting curious about the various species they have to offer I decided to go in and find out.

A beautifully decorated park welcomed me. Lots of flowers were all around the park. A lot of birds were free to roam around, others had their specific areas which were fenced off and a few dangerous ones were kept in a cage. This is not an article about the fact if or why we keep animals in a cage.

This is an article to show you the diversity of nature. To show you the beauty of a colorful world. To bring you some color into your grey, daily life. Birds in different sizes, shapes, and colors are supposed to brighten up your rainy, cold, and misty days. And if you actually live in one of those sunshine states then just enjoy the photographs anyhow.

I do not know any names of these parrots. Only realizing it now that I didn’t note it down. I guess since I am bad in remembering names I don’t even bother trying to remember any of these unique species’ names.

But I stood for a few minutes in front of them. Watching their behavior, listening to their sounds, and songs. Realizing not one of them was the same. They are all unique in their own kind of way.

Throughout the park, I repeatedly walked past a group of chicken or a single cock walking around. They were not restricted in their territory and were seen in between many other species of birds.

Other inspiring species are the owls. They barely ever move when I watch them. Pretending like they are sleeping or simply staring out in the world. Yet they do appear to be self-confident and very intelligent.

I took this shot when both of them had their eyes closed and only realized later how the one owl was sneaking a glance onto the other one. I first wanted to delete the shot but then deciding that it actually made it more unique.

This lovely peacock was walking around between a group of tourists and a few other free-roaming birds. He wasn’t interested in showing off his wonderful feather dress yet he still impressed me with his appearance.

I must have hit the big pond during feeding time. There were mussels, fish, and whatever else food all around the area. Every bird was either eating or feeding its young ones.

It was an area with the densest population of birds throughout the park. Some pelicans were actually outside on top of the net. Not sure if they found a hole to fly through or if there is actually a group of birds living outside this netting construction.

A few other ones were found in a much calmer area showing off their hairstyle.

I enjoyed walking through the park seeing all these different types of birds yet I am not sure if I would go to visit such a bird park again. I still prefer seeing them in the wild. But not everyone has the chance to go travel and explore the world, so this is definitely a great alternative.

I must admit the city of Kuala Lumpur has given me something special. Despite not being a city person I traveled twice within a short period of time to the city. And I would go back there anytime even if I would probably explore the rest of the country more the next time.
