A Coat Of Many Colors

Perhaps it has several meanings.

The very famous song by Dolly Parton has always intrigued me. I believe it represents:

  • Inclusion
  • Points of view; and
  • Opportunities

and if we wanted to spend the time, there are so many other points of interest.

The Coat of Many Colors

Imagine that the coat is the United States and that the colors are the many colors of its people. Black, gray, white, brown, pink, or any other color from all the little bits of scraps together create a rainbow of colors making America one of the most colorful countries in the world.

Inclusion

The coat can be many things, but inviting has to be one that comes to mind instantly. All of those colors, all of those people.

Many know that I have traveled the world many times. What I’ve found and believe to be true is that we’re more alike than different. It’s easy to include everyone when you realize that they are just like you.

Oh, do they have a different point of view, so what, do they dress differently? Why does that matter? Are their religious beliefs different from yours? So what?

One of the things I noticed most about raising six children (eight if you count raising my brother and sister) is that everyone is different. When they are very young, they are more alike than not. As they grow older, they differ widely in their beliefs. So what. You should see them. They have different heights and different objectives; they even have different spiritual beliefs. Each is a different human being. That’s what makes each of them special.

Opportunity is out there

Do you know how to find an opportunity? Do you seek opportunities?

Many of us expect the opportunity to fall into our lap as we believe it has in the case of others.

Live your life. Do you. Be you. Create you.

Over the years, I’ve had to recreate my life several times. The direction I was heading was not working. I had to rethink and repursue what I wanted to accomplish and who I wanted to be.

Give more thought to being or becoming you and less to why people aren’t you.
