A chilli recipe. I love chilli and chillies.
Here is a good recipe for a Friday night stay-home, take away.
Here’s a simple recipe for a classic homemade chilli:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (about 450g) ground beef (or ground turkey, chicken, or a plant-based alternative)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper (any colour), diced
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, diced avocado
Instructions:
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned and cooked through. If using a plant-based alternative, follow the package instructions for cooking.
- Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato paste, and beef or vegetable broth.
- Season the chilli with chilli powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the chilli to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the chilli simmer for about 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste the chilli and adjust the seasoning as needed. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can simmer the chilli uncovered for a bit longer.
- Once the chilli is ready, serve hot with your favourite toppings, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, or diced avocado.
Enjoy your homemade chilli with friends and family on a cosy evening!
