A Candle For The Dead
A poem
I sent you a message today, It was not planned But a mere passing moment lost in time. I was caught up In a momentary stupor When I read the notification On my cell phone screen So perhaps instinctively, Or maybe propelled by a stranger force, One that inspires a deep melancholy, Accompanied by sweet memories. My fingers started motioning, And heartfelt words began appearing:
Happy birthday dear sister You may be far away But your effect on me Would last forevermore My guardian angel Oh where are you now Perhaps somewhere in the sky Watching over us with an all seeing eye I fear not of the words I did not say Or the poems you won’t read For I know you’ll read them all With your ever approving smile.
Dearest one I light a candle To remember you As I whisper a wish Into the wind Maybe it will sail High and above, Finding its place Among the stars An undying devotion A commemoration If anything Happy birthday dear sister Your memories will outlive us all.
