Summary

The poem "A Blueberry's Daydream: Discovering Stardom and Societal Norms" reflects on the societal expectations placed upon a blueberry, contrasting them with its intrinsic value and role in nature.

Abstract

The poem presents a blueberry's perspective on societal standards, where it feels pressured to be in "good company," maintain "photogenicity," and possess "prime tonicity" to be valued. Despite these external demands, the blueberry emphasizes its inherent worth, symbolized by its "crimson lining in luscious passion~flesh pure." It serves as a "catalyst" and "benefactor," contributing to the ecosystem by providing sustenance and beauty. The poem questions the transient nature of favor and the importance of looking beyond superficial appearances, suggesting that true value lies within.

  • There is a sense of irony in the blueberry's questioning of whether anyone markets "useless grime," hinting at society's tendency to overlook intrinsic worth.
  • The blueberry takes pride in its core, suggesting that its true essence is overlooked by superficial judgments.
  • The poem conveys a message of resilience and self-worth, as the blueberry stands tall despite the fleeting nature of fame and favor.

they say i need good company — no one picks a good berry from crooks they say i need photogenicity — no one rewards homely looks they say i need prime tonicity — no one likes a mushy past-their-prime they say i need functionality— no one markets useless grime (wait — don’t they?)

ahh…but they forget my core crimson lining in luscious passion~flesh pure~ have you looked under my skin and in between?

for them — their skin and bones and in between i am their catalyst — their benefactor — i glisten from the top of the crystalline river

on a pedestal I stand humble — and TALL

till the next fav takes over. ouch!

seriously, have you looked inside a blueberry?
