A Blooming Yellow Lily
Summer Six Word Story Challenge: “Shine!”
A single blooming yellow lily flower.
Our niece and nephew took us on a nature walk in Seattle. We had just arrived in Seattle the previous day on a 14-hour flight from Singapore and had another 5-hour flight coming up the next day to return to Florida. We were jet-lagged and tired. We know that exposure to sunshine helps to adjust biorhythms which helps to overcome jetlag, so we were happy to go for a walk in the summer sunshine.
We walked on a narrow path winding through an orchard of blackberries bushes. We weren’t picking blueberries ourselves, but we enjoyed watching several young families filling their buckets with ripe blueberries. The path gradually led us to a small pond covered in lily pad leaves as we walked. I looked and looked but didn’t see any lily flowers. Then, just as we were leaving, I looked over the side of the bridge where we were standing, and there in the water, almost underneath the bridge, was a single blooming yellow lily flower.
It looked like a ray of sunshine floating in the water. Delightful. Spotting the sunny yellow lily flower was the perfect ending to a nature walk on a sunny day near Seattle.
