3 Events in Revelation Mentioned in Other Places in the Bible

The Book of Revelation
Revelation is the last book in the Bible. It is mostly known for its vivid description of supernatural events, otherworldly beasts, and as the playbook for end time events.
However, it’s main purpose is to describe the glorious, ultimate revealing of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Some of the events described in the Book of Revelation were mentioned or prophesized about earlier in other parts of the Bible. Let’s look at 3 of them.
Other Places
- The Lamb Motif. In the book of Revelation Jesus is presented as the Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world.
Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. — Revelation 5:6–8 New International Version
The prophet Isaiah also used the Lamb motif when he prophesized about the sinless servant who would die for the sins of all people.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. — Isaiah 53:7 New International Version
John the Baptist also pointed out Jesus’ role as God’s Lamb:
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!!” — John 1:29 New International Version
2. The Four Winds. The Book of Revelation reveals that there are four angels who hold back the four winds of judgment.
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. Revelation 7:1 New International Version
The four winds are also mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah:
This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“See, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. I will bring against Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven; I will scatter them to the four winds, and there will not be a nation where Elam’s exiles do not go. — Jeremiah 49:35, 36
3. Sun and Moon Colors Will Change. Revelation divulges environmental calamities like none before.
I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. — Revelation 6:12–13 New International Version
The prophet Joel was also explicit in his description of end times fate of the heavenly bodies:
The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls. — Joel 2:31–32 New International Version
When Peter addressed the crowd on the Day of Pentecost, he reiterated Joel’s message almost verbatim:
The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. — Acts 2:20 New International Version
