The main guest had just arrived and was seated next to the host, the man he raised from the dead. Martha prepared the meal for him serving her way of expressing love. The host was among those who ate, people staring at the man who died. He had been in a grave for four days. Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet, the man who’d taken away her grief, wiping them with her hair and filling the house with the fragrance of love.
