A Black and White Blast from the Past
We were black and white. We called ourselves ‘salt and pepper.’

Some Things Just Happen. You Don’t Know Why.
Roy Warren and I just knew each other by face in passing. I was a lawyer and he was in real estate. One time at a meeting, Roy started reciting the Bible, and it was from memory. He didn’t even have a Bible open. I later found out he had a photographic memory for scripture.
I was captivated by his resonate baritone voice — very easy to listen to.
I was given a guitar: “Play with him. Sing the song you did last week.” Roy and I did a few things together that evening with no rehearsal.
The Salvage Company Was Born Overnight
A pastor who heard us recommended us to churches, and things just grew from there. We got more invitations than we could fulfill.
The reason was we didn’t offend anyone!
If you don’t know churches and denominations, they are very opinionated. If you step an inch in the wrong direction of what they believe and teach, they won’t let you get your foot in the door. But how could they argue with SCRIPTURE and spiritual SONGS?
Someone suggested we call ourselves ‘The Salvage Company’ — the gospel in song and scripture. So we began ‘salvaging souls for Jesus,’ as was said about us.
But we didn’t know what the gospel was, or even what salvation was.
Neither Roy Nor I Were Christian Believers
In fact, both our lifestyles would have been frowned on by any church. Yes, we kept this hidden. People thought we were good Christians. It was like the song I shared before: ‘Churchianity Talkin’ Blues.’
Things happened at our presentations we didn’t understand. People were getting saved and born again. They were getting delivered from oppression and depression — even demons at times, so we were told. There were reports of folks healed. We were dumbfounded.
Neither Roy nor I had a clue what was going on. We’d look at each other bewildered. We shook our heads, wondering what was happening.
It Was Just ‘What God Was Doing…’
Soon we just went along with things, pretending we knew ‘what God was doing,’ — as we heard many people claim.
I learned what the saying meant: “God works in mysterious ways!”

We Just Got Burned Out and Called it Quits
Working full time, we also performed at so many churches, youth groups, retreats, and other events we just got tired. Burned out!
But I also gleaned something from all of this: about 2 months before we quit, I discovered my life was really lacking something so I became a follower of Jesus. Life has been amazing ever since. I led worship for years, wrote books, toured and spoke, all while working full time. Later on, I led people as ‘The Gospel Life Coach.’
I only have 2 presentations from The Salvage Company. Listen to them here if you want to.
They are truly UNIQUE from other things I’ve heard.
One song I do on these: “For God So Loved the World,” I wrote just before we broke up and made these recordings. God was giving me confirmation that something had indeed happened in my life.
It’s interesting how many people have gotten into these recently, even though ‘The Salvage Company’ been ‘dead’ for a long time. Click here for the two presentations.
