Sinking into a life of slow rejuvenation

Sinking into quicksand or sinking into a plush satin pillow — you pick. Have you ever felt like you were sinking or drowning in despair? Life can certainly throw some rough blows. However, there is another side. Gradually or sinking into a better “you.” It’s rare that someone magically undergoes a “rebirth” or a “rejuvenation.”

Rejuvenation takes time. Just as a literal house undergoes a rejuvenation, it is a process. Step by step, the house gradually is plastered, painted, with finishing touches. Likewise, a better you takes effort and time.

There is no secret pill that transforms you into the person you want to be. Changing the negative features of your personality is a slow and ongoing process.

An example of this is aging. Many people, not all, mellow with time and age. Perhaps they were reactive most of their life. Some men and woman, well into their fifties and sixties, will tell you that what bothered them at a younger age no longer concerns them now. They are much more relaxed. They have mellowed with time.

I’d like to think I too have “mellowed.” Of course I won’t admit my age. It has taken years of experience, some trial and error, to understand the who, what, and why of life. This process has at times been painful. Understanding my limits has also been fundamental. The results rendered though are well worth it.

For me, there has never been an “aha moment.” The gradual effects are just that — gradual. I am grateful where I am. I have peace of mind and contentment.
