A Best Self

The Summit’s weekly prompt — best version of ourselves

My best self would be like a surfer riding the waves, staying afloat, being happy with all I do, not doubt myself, taking a little more time to figure things out. I believe our purpose is to be happy. And in that purpose, we must help others when we can and not hurt them.

“Happiness is the highest form of health.” Dalai Lama

We all need to be happy and productive and have purpose. Our choices and actions can generate both happiness and health. Are we going with the flow in life or against it? Are we living our life and dreams or those of others?

We might stop and wonder, how did I get here? It’s really not so puzzling when we look at our choices. We might feel regret and wish we had done things differently, but once we accept that it was our choice, there’s less friction in our heads of wondering how and why. Again, when we stop to look, we know why, and how becomes less worrisome. Life is a learning process. In order to gain wisdom, we must have experiences and become knowledgeable. Our choices take us there.

Best would be healthy and happy in mind, body, heart, and soul. Keeping my peace. Writing each day and creating as many books as possible where I’m inspired. We need courage to be better and best, to make good choices, and take good risks. There’s no set formula to get there. But we do have to take time each day to foster, nurture, and preserve our calm, search for answers, and be as productive as we can be.

Happiness is that tube that helps to keep us afloat. We have to remember and visualize being safe or being safe in all kinds of weather floating above the rough waters.

To grow like flowers, we must plant the seeds, water them, and watch how we grow. To be more specific, make the phone call or take the action you’ve been putting off in order to learn something new, or even go back to school, rekindle or refresh a relationship or make new ones, shop for foods that will promote better health, eat healthier snacks. Do all the things we may have put off because our courage was waning or put aside. I’ve newly chosen to exercise every day and stretch and breathe on the seventh. I’m getting up earlier but not early enough yet, and still staying up too late reading, writing, or watching a movie or catching up on a series. Doing all that does make me happy though, and we should do what makes us happy, which includes loving others too, and even if it means finding a job that takes you to that happy place and out of the one that’s making you unhappy.

Being best is having the courage to be happy and never giving up on learning, loving, or living.

Happiness is a tall order, but without all that makes us happy, we breathe less, we learn less, and live less.

Thanks for reading.
