A Beginner’s Guide to Medium’s Poetry Publications
Find a home for your poems

I started with Medium a few months back. And the genre I love to publish in is Poetry. There are relatively fewer publications on Medium that look for poetry over articles. But there are some publications that I dug into these few months that offer an invitation to the poet.
As poetry mostly involves the use of fewer words than articles, its a bit tough to find its home. Here are some of the publications that can be potential ones for you. Let's begin the search.
The Junction
The Junction is home and destination for top-notch fiction and poetry. They also publish humor pieces, memoir, and the occasional essay. All types of poems and stories are accepted except Listicles, fan fiction, or work with overt racist or sexist overtones and Political hot takes. You can read more of their submission guidelines here:
To become a writer for the publication please fill out this form. Make sure you have a draft ready that would be required while filling it.
Share the Love
Share the Love is one of my favorite spots as it has extremely supportive editors that advise you on each story to make relevant changes that can increase the chances of curation.
Their aim is to share the love of poetry and fiction. All kinds of poetry are accepted as long as they meet the guidelines and they also accept flash fiction, micro fiction, and short stories. But they don’t accept non-fiction stories. If you have written a piece about something in the news, a political view, or a How-To article, it's not their fit. Their submission guidelines can be read here:
To become a new writer please respond to this post. Their editors will have a look and get in touch.
a few words
As the name itself states that the publication targets topics like Life Lessons, Mental Health, Motivation, Productivity, Relationships, Self-awareness, Self-improvement, Writing, but under 500 words. If you have write-ups and poems belonging to the above-mentioned tags, they are the perfect ones to pitch. But, have a look at their guidelines first:
If you want to join as a writer, leave a comment on the above post and explain why you want to write there in a few words. If they clap on your response you will be accepted as a writer. Chances are that you will make it.
Illumination
Illumination is home to not just poetry but a lot of other articles as well. It makes a perfect balance between all of them. It is one of the largest publications that can also offer a good start to your writing growth. You can write about diverse topics. They value diversity, freshness, originality, and authenticity from new voices. Here is a link to the publication guidelines so you can have an insight into their requirements:
To be added as a new writer fill out the form on this page and leave a nice message. Don’t forget to leave a link to your medium id. They respond pretty fast:)
The Creative Cafe
The Creative Cafe focuses on and primarily features poetry, flash fiction, and strong creative non-fiction pieces that serve as a commentary on the experiences of the writer. They favor commentary that delivers a message less through exposition than through artistry. The commentary they select is often lyrical, narrative, or poetic. Here is a link to know more about what they publish:
They accept new contributor requests in the first week of the month. At the beginning of the month, simply see their new writer page and fill out the form.
Be Unique
Be Unique feature stories that allow people to see their lives from a unique perspective and where each story shares a diverse life experience with you. They mention that they’re tired of seeing the same types of stories on Medium with the same perspectives. Medium has now become a giant pool of repetitive content. They want articles that can create a difference or start a discussion. So if you write on topics that are somewhere out of the box, you will be at the right place. Get to know more about them:
Just respond to the above article and they will add you as a writer within 24 hours. They wish to provide a platform for new budding writers as well as professionals.
P.S. I Love You
It's tough to become a writer here for the beginners. You will only hear from them if they are interested in publishing your piece or adding you as a writer. They publish polished pieces and top-notch write-ups. They mainly focus on articles about love, relationships, like love as family and history, fear and rage, healing, transformation, and love as pain and triumph, sex, and intimacy. They publish poems in their ongoing Poetry Sunday. To submit for the same make sure your poem is in before Friday 4 pm for review.
Do read their guidelines carefully and accordingly form your draft for pitching them:
To become a writer send an email to Dan Moore, [email protected], send your link to the draft, along with an introduction, your Medium username.
Scribe
Scribe publishes stories and poems about life, love, and freedom. It likes stories that come from the heart and express a personal point of view. Above all, they seek emotion. They don’t publish stories about entrepreneurship, startups, and all things related to marketing or growth. But if money is your intention don’t knock their door. There are a lot more things you will have to learn about them before submitting them your work. Have a look:
If you want to be a writer, send an email to [email protected] with a link to your Medium profile and two links to the stories or poems (in draft form) you would like to submit. Explain in a few words why you want to join the publication and share links to three stories you liked on Scribe, and for which you gave claps.
Please note: There are a lot more publications that you might have heard of but are not mentioned here. The reason being this article is focused on publications that look for and publish poems. Also, there are some publications that are not accepting new writers right now so I didn’t mention them in detail, but if you want to read about them here are some names:
If I have missed out on some others, I apologize. There might be a possibility that when you found this story the above publications are accepting submissions. If they are not, keep checking:)
Lastly please don’t let rejections stop you from writing, each story makes us a better writer. So keep learning and keep writing.
