A Basket With a Red Velvet Cake and a Pot of Butter
But first, I must find my grandma’s old recipe
“Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood. Whether it was our mom’s homemade lasagna or a memorable chocolate birthday cake, food has a way of transporting us back to the past.”
— Homaro Cantu
Who doesn’t love a homemade baked dessert? Cookies, cakes or pies, can bring a smile with a sense of love to both the giver and receiver.
One of our purposes in life is to be content along the way. So why not include a few special treats from time to time.
Speaking of along the way, do you know what Little Red Riding Hood took her grandmother?
“I am going to see my grandmother, and I am taking her a cake and a pot of butter which my mother has sent to her.”
— Little Red Riding Hood
A pot of butter! I’m imagining her grandma wanted to do some baking as well. When was the last time you baked an old family recipe? Could you surprise someone soon with their favorite traditional recipe?
My birthday is just around the corner. I would love nothing more than my grandma’s red velvet cake. She used to bake them for everyone in our family on their birthday.
My grandma is no longer with us here in person, but I imagine her to be baking these beauties in heaven. I’d love to think she started baking one of these specialties right as she entered those beautiful golden gates.
These cakes are a little tricky to make, but they are so moist, and nothing says love like one of these special two-layered cakes.
It was truly a science experiment to mix the cocoa powder, vinegar, and red food coloring. I loved watching it bubbles up like a volcano.
I’m sure this is why I have always been obsessed with these beautiful cakes and also with baking in general.
These cakes are also perfect for Valentine’s Day. With a few cuts, the cake transforms into a lovely heart:
