Summary

God, depicted as a corporate entity, is tasked with replicating the creation of life on another planet due to Earth's impending doom from global warming.

Abstract

The narrative unfolds with God, portrayed in an organizational hierarchy, receiving a directive from a director of the Board to initiate life on a new planet following the failure to mitigate Earth's environmental crisis. The conversation reveals the dire state of Earth, with global warming having passed the point of no return, prompting the need for a new beginning elsewhere. God reflects on the original "recipe" for life, a set of chemical instructions, which was used 4 billion years ago to create life on Earth, and is now required again for this new endeavor.

Opinions

  • The story presents a unique perspective on the creation of life, likening it to a culinary recipe, emphasizing the precision and complexity involved in the process.
  • There is an underlying sense of urgency and resignation regarding Earth's environmental situation, suggesting that human efforts to reverse global warming have been inadequate.
  • The narrative implies a cyclical nature to the creation and potential destruction of life, with the possibility of life starting anew on another planet.
  • The portrayal of God as a corporate employee adds a layer of satire to the traditional views on creation and deity, suggesting a critique of how modern institutions handle crises.
  • The mention of a "Board of Directors" in the context of creation hints at a larger cosmic governance, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the interplay of forces that dictate the fate of planets and life within the universe.

A 4 Billion-Year-Old Recipe

For creating life

God stopped what he was doing and answered the phone call. It was from one of the Board of Directors.

The director jumped to the topic at once. He asked, “God, I hear there are some serious issues on Earth?”

“Yes, sir. Global warming is destroying the planet. We tried to intervene but had no success. I included additional details in my monthly report.”

“I read it. I think we have gone past the point of no return. We can’t save Earth.”

“I agree, sir.”

“Earth is the only planet to host life. Once it’s gone, we won’t have any life in the universe.”

“That’s right, sir.”

“I need you to kick-start life on some other planet. I know you did some splendid work when you created life on Earth. You came up with a… what do you call it?”

“A recipe, sir. It’s a set of instructions, when followed precisely, will give rise to life. It involves mixing different chemicals at the right temperature.”

“Very good. Start the work immediately and keep me posted.”

After the call ended, God sat down and stared at the window. I created the recipe 4 billion years ago. Where the hell is it now?
