9 Questions to Ask Yourself to Change Your Life in 2023!

For those who want to improve their thinking and understand themselves better!

1. Am I holding on to something I need to let go off?

Sometimes an underlying situation that doesn't let us move forward in life is based on holding on to unhealthy things. To be more specific, holding on to unhealthy people, situations, habits, you name it. It's important now and then to re-evaluate our lives, try to understand what doesn't align with who we are anymore, and eventually let it go. Recently, I realized that someone who I couldn't see myself living without wasn't adding to my happiness but was only taking away from it and that's when I knew it was time to let go. I had to let go to find peace again. At the end of the day, anything toxic and threatening to our well-being isn’t worth it.

2. In what ways do I show myself love?

Self-love can mean different things to different people. For some, it means being kinder to themselves, and to others spending a day taking care of themselves or it can mean going on a trip. No matter what self-love means to you it’s important to incorporate it into your daily life especially if you think that you don’t spend enough time on self-love.

3. Am I living or just existing?

There is a big difference between living life and just existing in it. Existing means just remaining alive while living means that there is more to life than simply staying alive. We need to be aware that life isn’t all about finding a good job, making lots of money, becoming better than anyone else, fitting the mold of society, and creating a family. It’s also about building different sides of yourself and creating your own purpose first because that’s when you truly live.

4. What do I want to prioritize this year?

It could be mental health, physical health, building friendships, improving certain skills, education, family, a romantic relationship, or work. I strongly believe that it’s more efficient to focus on one or two things at a time instead of focusing on many things at the same time. Focusing on many things can get very overwhelming and eventually hold us back from achieving our goals.

5. How do I feel about the people I have around me?

The people we choose to have around us are a big reflection of what we believe we deserve and how we think we should be treated. If we deep down don't think we are worthy of good things, we’ll welcome in our lives the wrong people. Therefore, it’s important to re-evaluate our connections with people and trust our gut feeling. If after spending time with someone you feel down or overwhelmed then there is no point in keeping that person in your life.

6. What should I improve this year?

Being able to detect our weaknesses and work on them is a big step in achieving self-growth and understanding ourselves better. And as there is always space for improvement working on becoming and doing better is key.

7. Am I happy with my job/ career choice?

We spend a big part of our lives working. Research found that we approximately spend 90.000 hours of our lives working which is about 10.2 years. That’s a really long time. Now imagine spending that much time doing something you don't find fulfilling. Imagine spending your days waiting for the weekend to come. That’s a very miserable way of living so why not find a career path more suitable to you? It’s never too late to change your career.

8. To what degree do I actually control my life?

Gaining control of your life doesn’t mean being able to control every single thing that happens in it. That’s nearly impossible. I do believe we have control over everything in the sense that we can control how we react to something but we can’t always control the situation itself. Having a sense of control makes us feel more powerful and confident about moving forward and achieving our goals but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't leave some space to embrace change.

9. Do I get out of my comfort zone enough and what would I like to accomplish this year that is out of my comfort zone?

Getting out of our comfort zone is not always a pleasant thing to do. In fact, it can be scary and stressful. However, this is where the biggest growth happens. It’s usually also when the most unexpected and exciting things happen, so it’s good to know where our comfort zone ends and where we can expand it in order to grow and welcome new experiences in our lives.
