9 promises that need make today to make lasting, life-changing habits
As the new year rings bell, make just one resolution — to be the best version of yourself. Wake up and work towards that. Everyday.
Affirmations are great.
Manifestation is awesome.
Will power is amazing.
Motivation is wonderful.
Inspiration is, well, inspiring.
But habits, and habits alone have the power to change you.
Habits are tiny, small promises that you make everyday, and you keep those promises everyday until they become second nature to you. That’s when you start seeing the changes you want to bring in you.
On the first day of every new year that begins, we make many resolutions, make many promises only to break them they very next day. They never reach the point of becoming a habit.
Why?
We don’t follow through.
While it feels good in the moment, it feels inspiring to bring about the change, it makes you feel the adrenaline rush, it might even release some dopamine because after all you are pumped to bring that change to life.
But then, we go back to our normal, usual self which is familiar, which is comfortable, and which is warm and cozy and doesn’t require you to make an effort.
But remember, only the promises that you keep every single day will become a habit.
What those might be, you ask?
- Don’t let the stress ruin your present. The baggage of the past and the anticipation of the future overwhelms your today.
- Focus on your mental wellness. Prioritize yourself, and your mental wellbeing. Make you as the one you always believed you could be. Don’t let other people ruin your internal peace.
- Create a healthy, thriving ecosystem around you. Don’t let the toxicity of relationships, other people, the job to stop you from growing, from evolving into a more self-assured person.
- Prioritize fitness. Know that a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. The nimbleness, the swiftness and being light on your feet helps increase your focus, your determination and resilient towards the procrastination.
- Eat healthy. Soak up on nutrients, micronutrients, minerals, anti-oxidants and all the goodness that come with eating whole foods. Prioritize protein, eat your carbs and take good fat.
- Don’t let society fool you into thinking they know best. Your dreams and ambitions are not obligated to follow the societal rules. Neither are you answerable to that “assumed societal structure” for the decisions you take to become a better you.
- Prioritize self-care. It’s the best gift you can give to yourself, and to your loved ones.
- Focus on becoming financially independent. The best upside to it, it buys you time and provides you with resources to focus on the things you are passionate about while giving you financial stability to support your comfortable life.
- Say “No” more often. Know what your boundaries are and then clearly establish them. Cut-off the habits that compromises them, cut-off people who don’t respect them.
And lastly, but most importantly practicing gratitude is a magical ingredient in achieving peace, feeling content, staying happy.
